Quaint little towns have one thing in common - life moves at a slower pace. If you want to enjoy your holiday, forget the big cities. People there are too busy. Every time you try to engage in a conversation with them you get 'killjoy vibes'. Not so with small towns. Everybody knows everybody. They welcome you to their town because you present the only excitement they will know for a long time to come. And in Italy, there are lots of them. Below are the top 5 that I think you ought to visit.
1. Atrani
The dramatic landscapes of this town are out of this world. On one side is the blue Mediterranean and on the other the rolling hills of Amalfi Coast. It is serene and quiet - the sort of place you would want to spend the rest of your life.
2. Vogogna
This charming town is located in the heart of Val d’Ossola in the Piedmont region of Italy. It is most popular for being home of the Visconti Castle, built in 1344 for the Bishop of Novara, one Giovanni Visconti. It is part of the larger Val Grande National Park. If you love nature, then you will find it in abundance here. The people here are hospitable...too hospitable.
3. Alberobello
It is not hard to imagine that the trulli construction in this quaint town were the works of the aliens. The dry stone huts are kind to the eye. You will definitely impress your Instagram friends with your 'camera moments in Alberobello. The town is located in Puglia, Italy. It was inscribed into the UNESCO world heritage sites in 1996.
4. Neive
The alluring sunsets of Neive are legendary. The town is located in Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy. The surrounding vineyards make the town a hotbed for photography buffs.
5. Monte Isola
This town is an island within Lake Iseo in the province of Brescia, Lombardy. It is sleepy and beautiful. Its inviting waters are just the distraction you will need to enjoy your holidays.
Of course there are many more towns and villages you would want to visit in Italy...they are cheaper to vacation to, and their people are hospitable. Take these alternative holiday destinations and you will never regret.
