Heroica Ciudad de Huajuapan de Leónis a rural city with a surroundingmunicipalitylocated in the northwestern part of theMexican stateofOaxaca. It is part of theHuajuapan Districtin the north of theMixteca Region.It is located at the intersection of Federal Highways 125 and 190.The town was elevated to an honorary Mexican status in June 1843 in remembrance ofThe siege of Huajuapan, a battle between the royal army and the insurgents led byJosé María Morelos. The battle was won by the insurgents. The city was named afterAntonio de León, a hero of theMexican War of Independence.
