Laem Chabangis a cityinChonburi Province,Thailand. It occupies thetambonBang Lamung ofBang Lamung District, thetambonsBueng, Surasak, Thung Sukhla, and parts of Nong Kham ofSi Racha District. Laem Chabang is home to Thailand's largest port, about 25 kilometres north ofPattaya, and south of the city ofChonburi. The port occupies 2,572 acres (1,041ha) and is capable of handling the largest (Post-Panamax) vessels.
Development of the port complex started in 1988 to encourage development outside Bangkok and take advantage of proximity to the Gulf of Thailand. The container port was completed in 1991.In 2014 it handled 6.58 millionTEUs, making it the22nd busiest container port in the world.Much of the internationalshippingreaching Thailand passes through Laem Chabang. It is aport of callforPrincess CruisesandCelebrity Cruises.
Laem Chabang also has world class golf courses, such as the Laem Chabang International Country Club designed byJack Nicklaus.
